工党年会英语演讲稿埃德·米利班德对英国政治现状的见解LadiesandgentlemenItisanhonortospeakhereattheannualconferenceoftheLabourParty.Aswegatherheretodayourcountryfacesamomentoustask.Weareatacrossroadsinourhistoryandthechoiceswemakenowwillshapethefutureofournation.Attheheartofthisdecisionisthequestionofwhatkindofcountrywewanttobe.DowewanttobeacountrythatisdividedandunequalwheretheinterestsofthefewareputbeforetheneedsofthemanyOrdowewanttobeacountrythatisunitedandfairwhereeveryonehasthechancetogetaheadandshareinourcollectivesuccessFormetheanswerisclear.IbelieveinaBritainthatworksforeveryonenotjusttheprivilegedfew.Thatmeansaneconomythatworksforthemanynotjustthefewatthetop.ItmeansanNHSthatworksforeveryonenotjustthosewhocanaffordprivatehealthcare.Itmeansasocietythatisinclusiveandwelcomingwhereeveryonecanfeelvaluedandrespected.Butwecannotachievethisvisionthroughemptyrhetoricandplatitudes.Weneedtobehonestaboutthechallengeswefaceandthetoughchoiceswemustmake.Andthatmeansbeinghonestaboutthestateofourpoliticstoday.Thetruthisthatourpoliticalsystemisbroken.Itisdominatedbytheinterestsofasmallprivilegedeliteattheexpenseofeveryoneelse.Itisasystemthatisriggedinfavorofthewealthyandwell-connectedwiththevastmajorityofpeoplefeelingignoredandpowerless.WesawthisintheBrexitreferendumwherepeoplevotedtoleavetheEUpartlybecausetheyfeltthattheirvoiceswerenotbeingheard.Andweareseeingitnowinthegovernmentshandlingofthepandemicwherecronyismandfavoritismhavebeenprioritizedovertheneedsofordinarypeople.Butwecannotjustsitbackandbemoanthestateofourpolitics.Wemusttakeactiontochangeit.Thatmeansreformingourelectoralsystemtoensurethateveryonesvotecounts.Itmeansgettingbigmoneyoutofpoliticssothatpoliticiansareaccountabletotheirconstituentsnotjusttheirdonors.Anditmeansempoweringcommunitiesandworkplacessothatpeoplehavearealsayinthedecisionsthataffecttheirlives.Iknowthatthesechangeswillnothappenovernightandthattheywillfaceoppositionfrompowerfulvestedinterests.ButIbelievethattheyarenecessaryifwearetobuildatrulydemocraticandinclusivesociety.AndIknowthattheLabourPartyiscommittedtothisvision.TogetherwecanbuildaBritainthatworksforeveryone.ABritainthatisfairinclusiveanddemocratic.ABritainthatisabeaconofhopeandprogressfortheworld.Thankyou.第PAGE页共NUMPAGES页。
