英语演讲稿改善工作的快乐之道TED英语演讲稿改善工作的快乐之道TEDWhen I was sevenyears oldand my sisterwas justfive yearsold,we wereplaying on top of a bunk bed.I wastwo yearsolder thanmy sisterat the time--I mean,Im一一two yearsolder thanher nowbut atthe timeit meantshe hadtodo everythingthat Iwanted todo, and Iwanted toplay war.So wewere upontopof ourbunk beds. And onone side of thebunk bed,I hadput outall ofmy G.I.Joe soldiersand weaponry. And on the otherside wereall my sisters MyLittle Poniesreadyfor acavalry charge. There arediffering accountsof whatactually happenedthatafternoon, but sincemysisteris nothere withus today, let一一me tellyou thetrue storyLaughter--which ismy sistersalittle bitontheclumsy side.Somehow, without anyhelp orpushfrom herolder brotherat all, suddenly Amydisappeared offof the topof thebunkbedand landedwith thiscrash onthe floor. Now Inervously peeredover thesideofthe bedto seewhat hadbefallenmy fallensister andsaw thatshe hadlanded painfullyonher handsand kneeson allfours onthe ground.I wasnervous becausemy parentshad chargedme withmakingsure thatmysisterand Iplayed assafely andas quietlyaspossible. And seeingas howI hadaccidentally brokenAmys armjustone weekbefore Laughter...heroically pushingher outofthe wayof anoncoming imaginarysniper bullet,Laughterfor whichI haveyet to be thanked,Iwas trying as hard asI一一一一could shedidnt evensee itcoming IwastryingashardasI couldtobeon mybest behavior. And I saw mysisters face, this wailof painand sufferingandsurprise threateningto eruptfrom hermouth andthreateningto wakemy parentsfrom thelong wintersnap forwhich theyhadsettled. So Idid theonly thingmy littlefrantic sevenyear-oldbrain couldthink todo toavert thistragedy. And ifyou havechildren, youve seenthis hundredsof timesbefore.I said,Amy,Amy,wait.Dont cry.Dont cry.Did yousee howyou landedNohuman landson allfours likethat.Amy,I thinkthis meansyourea unicorn.LaughterNow that was cheating, because therewas nothingin theworldmy sisterwould wantmore thannot tobe Amythe hurtfive year-oldlittle sister, but Amythe specialunicorn.Of course, this wasanoption thatwas opento herbrain atno pointin thepast. And youcould seehow mypoor, manipulated sisterfaced conflict,as herlittle brainattempted todevote resourcesto feelingthepain andsuffering andsurprise shejust experienced, orcontemplating hernew-found identityas aunicorn. And thelatterwon out.Instead ofcrying, instead ofceasing ourplay, insteadof wakingmy parents, with allthe negativeconsequences thatwouldhave ensuedfor me,instead asmile spreadacross herfaceand shescrambled rightback uponto thebunkbedwith allthegrace ofa babyunicorn...Laughter withone brokenleg. What westumbled acrossat thistender ageof justfive and一一一一seven wehad noidea atthetimewas somethingthatwasgoingbe atthe vanguardofascientific revolutionoccurring twodecadeslater in the waythat welook atthe humanbrain.Whatwe hadstumbled acrossis somethingcalled positivepsychology, which isthe reason that Imhere todayand the reasonthatI wakeup every morning. When Ifirst startedtalking aboutthis researchoutsideof academia, out withcompanies andschools, the very first thingtheysaid tonever do is tostart yourtalk witha graph.Thevery firstthing Iwant todoisstart mytalk witha graph.Thisgraph looksboring, but thisgraph isthereasonI getexcitedand wakeupeverymorning. And thisgraph doesnteven mean一一anything;its fakedata. What wefound isLaughterIfI gotthis databack studyingyou hereinthe room,Iwould bethrilled, because theresvery clearlya trendthatsgoing onthere, and thatmeans thatI canget published, whichis allthat reallymatters. The factthat theres one weirdred一dot thatsup abovethe curve, theresoneweirdo intheroom一一一I knowwho youare,Isawyou earlierthats noproblem.Thatsno problem,as mostof youknow, because I can justdelete thatdot.Icandelete thatdot becausethats clearlya measurementerror. And weknow thatsa measurementerror becauseits messingupmy data.So oneoftheveryfirstthings weteach peoplein economicsandstatistics andbusiness andpsychology coursesis how,ina statisticallyvalid way,do weeliminate theweirdos. How doweeliminate theoutliers sowe canfind theline ofbest fitWhichis fantasticif Imtrying tofind outhow manyAdvil the一一average personshould betaking two.But if Im interested inpotential,ifIminterestedinyour potential,or forhappinessor productivityor energyor creativity, what weredoing iswerecreating thecult ofthe averagewith science.二〃script type。
