1939.she didresearch atChicago UniversityMedicalSchool.Soon aftershewasappointed thedirector ofPeking UnionMedical CollegeHospitalsOBGYN department,the hospitalwas closedby theJapanese,so sheopened upaclinic inher ownhome ina Beijinghutong.She returnedtothePekingUnionMedical CollegeHospitalwhen itreopened.Throughout the1950s,she workedclosely withPeng Zhen,themayor ofBeijing,to planand establishthe BeijingObstetrics andGynaecology Hospital,being thehonorary directorofthehospital whenit openedin
1959.Since earlydetection ofcervicalcancer isa keyto savinglives,in1958she spearheadeda surveyof womenin Beijingforthis purpose.The studywas thenreplicated intwenty othercities throughoutChina,savingmany womenlives.While Linis mostfamous withthe publicfor having,deliveredover50,000babies,within themedical munityshe isknown bestfor beingone ofthe foremostresearchersin Chinaon issuesregarding womenshealth.In
1978.she suffereda stroke inEngland whileacting asthe deputyhead ofa friendshipdelegation.This wasfollowed byanotherstrokein1980and herdeath on22April
