11.I stayedat myfriend,Stephen Stapczynski8i#39;s house—his familywas myhost family.AlthoughChristmas was still morethan tendays ahead,the festivespirit had already beenteemingeverywhere.The Christmas tree had already beenset up,and onevery windowsill,therewere Christmaslights.On thefirst dayI arrivedat theirhouse,Stephen and I helpedMrs.Stapczynski putdecorations on the Christmastree.The treelooked sonice withall thelights onandthe beautifulornaments danglingfrom itsbranches.As Christmascame closer,the wholeneighborhood hadmade preparationstoo.Some peoplewould holdparties at their houses,inviting all their neighborsto come.Soevery night,if youwent out,you wouldsee a long lineof carsparked infront ofsomehouse—a party#39;son!What#39;s more,the Christmasdecorations thatsome peopleput ontheirwindows andin gardens were justamazing.On onenight,we wentout inour carfor atourof lights.There wasone streetthat wasso famousfor itslights thatit gotits wayintothe localpaper.We hada hardtime findingthe well-hidden street,but itturned outto beworththe effort.Lights shonebrightly infront ofnearly everyhouse,on trees,bushes,doors,windowshellipjeverywhere,taking differentshapes,making itseem almostlikedaytime.Huge inflatablefigures in the frontgardenswerewaving tous:there wereSantaClauses2,of course,chuckling merrilyaway;and therewere alsoother Christmasfigures,like Rudolph3--the red-nosed reindeer-with hisred nosegleaming everso brightly;evenBart Simpson—a characterin thefamous comedyThe Simpsons—had joinedthe jollyparty,wearing aSanta#39;s hat.The streetset offa lot of oohsand aahsinside thecar.4When weleft,there wasa lineof carsin thestreet,all thereto seethe lights.Christmas isthe timefor exchangingpresents.Stephen andNiko hadbeenthinking abouttheir Christmaslists alist of things theywish Santatogive themforChristmas foralongtime.I didn#39;t wantto askfor anything,but theStapczynskiswere sokind toforceme makeone listas wellMr.Stapczynski toldme ifI didn#39;tmake onehe wouldchop offmy legs.So Iwrote downa coupleofthingsthat Iwouldlike tohave,and gavethe listto them-sorry,my mistake-to Santa.Finally,Christmas Evecame.There wasa special Christmas serviceat the churchat6p.m.It wascertainly a very interestingexperience forme.The prieststarted theservicereading andsang outextractions froma holybook—The DivineLiturgy.Forseveral times,we wouldstand upand pray.Sometimes,thechurchchoir wouldstart singing.The atmospherewas veryquietand holy.Then therewasaceremony calledThe ReceivingCommunion.People waitedinline toreceivea spoonfulof foodfrom the priest.It wasa veryspecialChristmastradition.The foodwas madefrom breadand wine.The breadrepresents thebody ofJesus,andthe winerepresents hisblood.After thisceremony,thepriesthadaspeech.He remindedusnot toforget thetrue meaningofChristmas,and letJesus reallylive insideus-that is,to lovethe peoplearound uswholeheartedly.I thinkthat nomatter ifyou area Christianornot,this principleshould bepart ofour lives.After thepriest finishedhis speech,thepart thatI enjoyedmost came:Christmas carols
