有关使用方法及常见错点的归纳suggest陕西延川中学刘富祥【摘要】动词suggest有两层含义,可表达“提议，提议”或“暗示，表明后接名词、动名词、含疑问词的不定式或从句作“提议，提议”讲时，宾语从句要用虚拟语气但不能接不定式或复合宾语下面分述如下

三、有“暗示、表明”的意思，其主语往往是事物，而不是人1接名词或动名词做宾语The simplehouse suggesteda modestincome.这座简朴的房子表明房主的收入并不高Her paleface suggestedbad health.她脸色苍白，看来身体不好The thoughtof summersuggests swimming.一想到夏天，就使人们联想到游泳2接宾语从句，从句用陈说语气如I suggested that sheshould gohome.我提议她回家去The decisionsuggested that he mightbring hisfamily.这个决定表明他可以把家眷带来The expressionon hisface suggested that hewas veryangry.他脸上的表情表明他很生气

四、在主语从句It issuggestedthat…及名词suggestion背面表达详细提议的表语从句、同位语从句都应用should+动词原形，should可以省略如It wassuggestedthat we shouldgive aperformance atthe party.人们提议我们在晚会上演出节目His suggestionwas thatthe debtsshould bepaid offfirst.他的提议是先把债务还清The doctorsmade a suggestion thatthe newhospital should notbeset upon thehill.医生们提议不要把新医院建在山上

（二）使用suggest的使用方法及使用错点错点一误用不定式作宾语要表达汉语的“提议做某事，英语一般用suggest doingsth,而不能用suggest todostho如他提议坐飞机去，可我认为这样花费太大±EHe suggestedgoing by plane,but Ithought itwould costtoo much.误He suggestedto gobyplane,but Ithought itwould costtoo much.汤姆提议把房子卖了，不过安表达反对正Tom suggestedselling the house but Ann was against it.正Tom suggestedto sellthehousebutAnnwas againstit.错点二误接不定式的复合构造作宾语汉语一般说“提议某人做某事”，但英语习惯上不能说suggest sbto dosth,而说suggest sbs/sb doingsth也就是说，suggest后不仅不接不定式，并且也不接不定式的复合构造如他提议我们早点动身正He suggestedthat weleave earlier.误He suggestedus toleave earlier.当然，我们也可以用后接that从句的形式来体现此意思注意谓语用“should+动词原形”这样的虚拟语气形式如I suggestthat we should havelunch rightnow.我提议我们目前就吃午饭He suggeststhat weshould allgo tosee thefilm.他提议我们都去看电影比较如下同义体现他提议他们在没有听到事实真相之前什么都别说±EHe suggestedshouldnot saying anything till they heard the facts.正He suggestedsaying nothingabout ittill theyheard thefacts.±EHe suggestedthat theyshouldn,tsayanythingtilltheyheardthefacts.错点三混用其后宾语从句的语气suggest后接宾语从句时，从谓语既可用陈说语气，也可用虚拟语气，其区别与suggest所示的意思有关:

1.若suggest表达“提议”，则其后接的that从句谓语一般用“（should）+动词原形”这样的虚拟语气形式如I suggestedthat sheshouldgohome.我提议她回家去She suggestedthat I（should）be theleader,她提议由我来做领导人

2.若suggest表达“暗示”“意指”“表明”等义,则其后接的that从句要用陈说语气如What hesaid suggestedthat hewasacheat.他说的话表明他是个骗子Are yousuggesting thatI mnot suitedfor thejob你的意思是说我不适合做这工作？错点四其后误接双宾语要表达向某人提出某状况，suggest后不能接双宾语，即不能用suggest sbsth,而一般用suggest sthto sbo如我向她提出一种处理问题的措施正I suggestedaway out toher.误I suggestedher awayout.若其中的直接宾语比较复杂（例如是that从句）时，可考虑改用suggest tosb stho我向他提议我们应当用另一种方式处理这个问题正I suggestedto him that weshould tackle theproblem another way.误I suggestedhimthatweshouldtackletheproblemanotherway.错点五忽视有关派生名词的有关使用方法按英语习惯，suggest的派生名词suggestion也具有与其词根动词相似的使用方法,如当suggestion表达“提议”时，若其后接一种that引导的宾语从句，则该从句也习惯上要用“should+动词原形”这样的虚拟语气如The suggestionthat shopsshould openon Sundaysled toa heateddiscussion.有关商店星期日也应当营业的提议，引起了剧烈的争论There wasasuggestionthat Brownshould bedropped fromthe team.

1.He noddedhis headand smiled有一项提议是布朗应当离队which suggestedthathewhat Isaid.A:would understandB:had understoodC:should understandD:has understood这里suggest可不可以表达暗示？答选B解析可用于表坚持，提议，规定，命令等词后的宾语从句中，其构造为should+动词原形，其中的should可省如He suggestedthatweshould startoff earlythe nextday.注意suggest表达“暗示，表明”之意时，不用虚拟语气，用陈说语气如The smileon hisface suggestedthathewas satisfiedwith ourwork.在本题中suggest为“暗示”的意思，因此应排除虚拟语气的形式，由于suggest是过去式，根据题意，宾语从句应当用过去完毕时应选择B.参照文献张振邦.
